5G Device-to-Device (D2D) Communication

5G D2D communication is significant in applications like self driving cars, machine-to-machine communications, internet of things applications and public safety communication. 

Mission critical application is one of the most significant applications of D2D communication. During an emergency situation, network availability might be limited or unavailable. D2D communication enables users to connect to nearest devices and interact each other even during absence of a mobile network.

5G technology will provide support for ProSe Direct discovery, ProSe Direct communication, Device-to-Network Relay, Device-to-Device Relay, direct communication path selection between sidelink (PC5) and the 5G network.
